22 Mar A Look Inside: Creating Mandalas for Fun and Relaxation
Creating Mandalas for Fun and Relaxation! I have been working on this book about how to create mandalas for several months, trying to decide what to include (options for easy designs to use) and what to exclude ( information about sacred geometry). Eventually amid the snow storms, the book was uploaded, and the finally a box arrived with the books inside! By the time this had happened I had moved on to the next project and the box lay unattended.
As I was photographing a paper flower kit today I moved the box and realized that nobody knows the book even exists. I decided to take some photos of the pages to use to create a little video. It contains the things I most needed when I was learning how to create mandalas – the structure, the power of repeating patterns, and examples of little forms you can easily draw to fill in the spaces. This book is the result!
I used scans of mandalas I have drawn, so you can still see the pencil marks, and I also created the forms using a pencil and compass. I agonized over whether to clean the images up digitally so the book looked pristine, but ultimately decided it should look hand drawn so as you work in it it feels less intimidating to add marks and erasings. Maybe down the road I’ll create the pristine version, but not right now!
Here is the video to give you a look inside the book:
